Upcoming and Regular Events

Little Angels is fortunate to receive funds through a wide variety of events and activities, as well as donations that come directly to our organization. Some of the events are run by members of Little Angels and others by our supporters. There are a few events that have run regularly over the years and these are described below under Regular Events. Occasionally a supporter will organize a one-off event to raise funds. These are described below under Special Events.

Ski for Little Angels

To help with her recuperation from a bone marrow transplant in April 2001, Evelyn Stone decided to train for the 2002, 10 km Keskinada Loppet (now called the Gatineau Loppet). She realized that she could turn this activity into a fundraising event for Little Angels.

The first year, 2002, 20 people skied and raised $7,000. The number of participants and funds raised has risen steadily over the years. In 2016 there were 55 skiers who brought in a total of over $28,000 in pledges.

In January 2011, the Ottawa Citizen interviewed Evelyn and produced an article for their Up Beat section describing Evelyn’s recovery from cancer and her 10 of years for support for Little Angels. With the generous permission of the Ottawa Citizen, we have provided a copy of that article here.

For more information about participating in the Gatineau Loppet and joining Evelyn in raising funds for Little Angels, please go to Join the Little Angels Ski/Snowshoe Team.

Bi-annual BMT Picnic Auction

Every second year the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the Ottawa Hospital holds a picnic to celebrate the ongoing success of its BMT program. It is an opportunity to bring together patients, their families and staff to celebrate life.

Little Angels raises funds at this event by holding an auction at each of these picnics. If you are interested in donating any items to the auction, please contact Diane George-Wiggins at 613-371-0243.

Special Events

A Gathering of Angels

Danny Sullivan, a cancer survivor and bone marrow transplant recipient has organized a benefit concert for Little Angels. See the poster here.

The concert will be held on Saturday, October 28, 8 p.m. – A Gathering of Angels: Benefit Concert for Little Angels Blood Cancer Fund will feature CR Avery, Bob Spelled Backwards, Scott Cook, Allison Lupton (with Shane Cook & Kyle Waymouth), David Ross Macdonald, Japhy Sullivan, Hidden Roots Collective, Kate Weekes, & special guests with MC Magoo at the Bronson Centre Theatre –  (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

To quote Danny:

Although I have not been able to return to work as a teacher since my transplant, I have been able to continue my efforts to present and promote live music in Eastern Ontario, and over the last 2 years to take on the role of Artistic Director of the Blue Skies Music Festival.  I feel that it is time for me to give something back to the Little Angels Fund.  So, with the help of my ever-supportive wife and family, I am…organizing a fund-raising concert for the Little Angels. To start with, I asked all the artists and performers I have worked with in the years since my transplant – artists whose music I might never have heard if it weren’t for that transplant.  The response was incredibly heartening.
